​Markus Zusak was born on June 23rd, 1975 in Sydney,Australia.  Zusak wrote the Book Thief and many other works.  He wrote The Underdog in 1999 The Fighting Ruben Waffle in 2001, When Dogs Cry in 2002, and The Messenger in 2002.  Zusak won CBC book of the year and the 2003 NSW Premier's Literary Award for The Messenger and the Printz Honour in America.  Zusak grew up hearing stories about the Nazi's, bombing of the Munich and Jews, They are all stories he wanted to tell. That is how he git the idea for the Book Thief.
